Ashley Yun / Dylan Oyama Win At El Niguel Country Club & Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club
(ORANGE COUNTY, CA, June 29/30, 2020) – The Toyota Tour Cup is back in action! After a nearly three-month hiatus, the TTC arrived at El Niguel Country Club and Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club to continue the year-long points race. Equipped with new policies and procedures, the tournament was held safely and responsibly which ensured the health and wellbeing of all participants and staff members.
Day one of competition was held at the challenging El Niguel Country Club in scenic Laguna Niguel. For the Boys Championship, Dylan Oyama jumped out to a commanding lead firing an impressive seven-under par 65. A huge catalyst to his spectacular round was his hot start out the gate as he went five-under par in just his first six holes of play. This enabled Oyama to take a two- and three-stroke lead over Luciano Conlan and Kyle An, respectively.
For the Girls Championship, the overnight leaderboard was congested with Ashley Yun, Lauren Sammon, and Elle Laur sharing the lead after firing even-par, 72’s. In addition, there were four other players within a three-stroke striking range.
Day two of play traveled inland to nearby Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo and promised to deliver a drama-filled finish. Boys leader Oyama traversed the hazard-laden course at even-par. An, who started the day in solo third, carded a three-under 69 to tie Oyama after 36 holes at seven-under par 137. Oyama needed three playoff holes to finally come out victorious and earn his first TTC win of 2020. Rounding out third place was Conlan with a five-under par 139.
The Girls Championship saw Ashley Yun continue her steady and consistent play with a one-under par 72 for a two-day 144. A charging Karen Tsuru made a valiant push to catch Yun, spurred on by an eagle on the par-5 7th hole. Her efforts came up short after finishing her round with a bogey on the par-5 18th. Tsuru finished the day two-strokes behind Yun with a two-day 146, while Kamille Dimayuga came in solo third with a two-day 147.
