Toyota Tour Cup at Arrowood
OCEANSIDE, CA – The Toyota Tour Cup got a break from the heat down at Arrowood Golf Course. Mid-80’s temperatures and a stead breeze off the ocean made for a pleasant golfing experience! The stroke average for the field through round one was an impressive 75.5 and would have been quite lower if not for the infamous “Quandry”. This aptly named stretch of holes begins at the par-3 15th, but the test really starts on the daunting 16th and extends through the 18th. The stroke average through that stretch was .64 and .47 strokes over par for girls & boys, respectively. Championships are won and lost on this final stretch! When all scores were in from the first round Karen Tsuru’s -2, 69 was enough to hold a one stroke lead over Heo, Wilson, and E. Lee. Luciano Conlan posted a -5, 66 to sleep on a two stroke lead over P. Hong and B. Hong heading into Sunday’s final round.
Despite a flurry of 69’s posted by Tsuru, Wilson, Le, and Choi, Heo played a phenomenal final round posting a bogey-free 66 to claim her second career TTC title and first of the 2020 season. Tsuru finished second place with Wilson taking the third spot.
Luciano continued his hot play making the turn at -2 for the round, but Carson Kim was red hot on the front nine posting a -4, 32 and was just one shot back. It was a tight race coming down the stretch, but Kim kept the momentum rolling and posted a -5, 66 to take the clubhouse lead and watched as the final group came in. However, Conlan had a some bogies on the back-nine and finished in a tie for 2nd at -4 with: Benjamin Hong, Kai Hirayama, and Dalin Piao.
Congratulations Angela and Carson!
