Your guide to collegiate golf and your roadmap to your college recruitment. The Southern California PGA Junior Tour is committed to helping our SCPGA Jr Tour Members find their path to collegiate golf. We have partnered with Athlos College Coaching and Ted Gleason (Road to College Golf) to provide services and guidance in the college golf recruiting process.

Recruiting Overview

  • Creating your resume
    • First and last name, home address, cell phone number, email, and Instagram account
    • Parent/Guardian contact information
    • Graduation Class
    • NCAA ID#
    • GPA (weighted and unweighted)
    • Current school
    • Tournament scoring avg., tournament accolades, JGS ranking, list your most recent tournament scores including your finish, yardage, course rating/slope
    • Swing and/or short game instructor (provide his or her contact info)
    • Swing and short game video

  • Recruiting calendar – the appropriate times to reach out to coaches
    • Freshman Year
      • Play in nationally recognized tournaments (multi-day tournaments)
      • Establish a Junior Golf Scoreboard Ranking (CLICK HERE)
      • A college coach cannot accept a call or text message from you prior to June 15th following your sophomore year of high school
      • Unofficial visits are allowed
        • You may make an unlimited number of unofficial visits but cannot speak with a Division I coach or athletics department staff member, take an athletics specific tour or receive complimentary admissions to home athletic contests during these visits until August 1st prior to your junior year of high school
      • Official visits, which are financed by the school, are not allowed until August 1st prior to your junior year of high school
      • Attending college golf camps is allowed
      • Get educated on college golf by reviewing golf team websites, utilizing collegegolf.com and following golf results/rankings on www.clippd.com and www.golfstat.com as well as following teams’ Instagram accounts
      • Attend a college golf tournament in person
    • Sophomore Year
      • Decide what your priorities are (athletic, academic, location, values, etc.) when looking for a school to attend
      • Email coaches to introduce yourself and inform them of your interest in their school/golf program
        • College coaches are not allowed to contact you until June 15th following your sophomore year
      • When emailing a coach, let them know which upcoming tournaments you are competing in so they can be aware to follow your results
        • A college coach is allowed to attend one of your tournaments to watch you compete
      • Unofficial visits are allowed
        • You may make an unlimited number of unofficial visits but cannot speak with a Division I coach or athletics department staff member, take an athletics specific tour or receive complimentary admissions to home athletic contests during these visits until August 1st prior to your junior year of high school
      • Official visits are not allowed until August 1st prior to your junior year
    • Junior Year
      • Emails, phone calls, and text messages are allowed starting June 15th prior to your junior year of high school
      • Communicate with coaches to share your interest in their school and golf program. Always personalize your communication.
      • Ask coaches about the opportunity for official or unofficial visits
      • Narrow down the schools you are interested in based on your fit and interest
      • Unofficial visits are allowed except during Dead Periods. You are allowed to make an unlimited amount of unofficial visits and you can speak with a coach or staff member during your visit.
      • Official visits are allowed starting on August 1st prior to your junior year. Athletes are only allowed to make one official visit per university.
    • Senior Year
      • Continue to honestly evaluate your interaction with college coaches and make any necessary adjustments to your target list of schools. The recruiting process is ever changing so if you haven’t committed to a college at the beginning of your senior year, keep competing in events and amending your list where necessary.
      • Pay close attention to application deadlines for the schools you are interested in
      • Emails, phone calls, and text messages are allowed
    • Official visit
      • Official visits are financed by the school. You are allowed one official visit per school.  Official visits are not allowed during a dead period.
    • Unofficial visit
      • Unofficial visits are not paid for by the school. However, you are allowed to make an unlimited amount of unofficial visits but cannot speak with a Division I coach or athletics department staff member, take an athletics specific tour or receive complimentary admissions to home athletic contests during these visits until August 1 prior to your junior year of high school.
    • Verbal Commitment
      • A verbal commitment is a verbal agreement between a prospective student athlete and a coach to play sports for a university prior to the PSA signing or being eligible to sign a National Letter of Intent. The commitment is not binding on you or the school. June 15 following an athlete’s sophomore year is the first opportunity for any recruiting interaction.
