PEBBLE BEACH, California – On June 25 our Team of six girls from Southern California drove up the coast to the beautiful Monterey Peninsula to play an 18-hole match play event against the Girls from Northern California for the 2017 Girls North/South Cup at Poppy Hills Golf Course.
The members of our team were; Amari Avery, Mack Bailey, Anna Dong, Cameron Lee, Taylor Ornelas & Sienna Scibird.
These six very talented ladies toughed out a long drive up the coast to play a very difficult golf course they’ve have only seen on TV against a group of girls that know the course well. Poppy Hills GC is a demanding test of golf and is one of the courses in the rotation at the PGA Tour’s Annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Golf Tournament. The format was an 18-hole combination of Foursomes & Singles Matches. These were all hard fought matches that went back and forth, no one was ever more than two up or three down the entire day and by the end of play the Northern Cal Team came out on top and won the Cup back with a final score of 7 points to our two. The score does not accurately reflect the level of play our Girls displayed, they hit terrific shots all day but couldn’t get the putts to drop and that proved to the deciding factor.
We all had a great time together and I was very proud of how they played and how they conducted themselves, I only received compliments about our team from the North Team Captain, PGA Professional Scot Hathaway and the staff of the JGANC.
We congratulate the Northern Cal on their victory and we look forward to playing them again next year where the matches will be held here in Southern California.
