EL CAJON, California – The final Toyota Tour Cup of the season before the Championship took place at Sycuan Golf Resort this weekend. The course was playing longer than usual and to make it more challenging, the wind started to whip in the afternoon of the first round. At the end of the day, there were 16 boys at even par or better on a day that 75 was the division average. Amritpal Kang and Krando Nishiba were both leading the pack with their two under finishes, both carding 5 birdies during their rounds. The average round for the girls truly showcased the challenge of the course- an 81. Angela (Yilin) Liu, however, came to play and turned in a 2-under score to be in solo first. Following close behind in second, with even par, a San Diego native, Lauren Gomez. The second day could not be more perfect for low scores with its warm weather and little breeze. There was a five way tie for third place at 1-under, Matthew Gunson was able to take home the trophy by winning a cardoff with an eagle on his back nine. In second place, Luke potter at 3-under with five birdies for the weekend. The boy’s champion, shooting 71, 69, was Hyunho Cho with 5 birdies in the final round. Lauren Gomez was able to secure her third place with a 75 and Therese Warner stayed consistent with another 73 for second place. Dominating the whole weekend, Angela (Yilin) Liu was the girl’s champion firing another 70 for a 4-under finish for the weekend.
