SANTA ANA, California – Santa Ana Country Club completely re-designed their course and was back up and running, eager to have the Toyota Tour Cup out there. 90 players mustered the courage to walk 36 on Monday in the heat and humidity. Immediately upon walking onto the grounds you can’t help but to soak in the 180 degree view of this fantastic new layout. However, danger lurks. Kikuyu grass throughout the course, wispy native grassy areas lining the fairways, and howling winds off the ocean would surely test your game.
SACC played pretty difficult across the board with the stroke average for the girls at plus eight and boys at plus five. However, one was able to tame the kikuyu and put together two solid rounds with scores of 73-75. This was enough for Cameron Lee to fend off the field and capture her second career TTC victory. The boys had four rounds in the red after 18-holes were finished that included some fireworks; Fullerton’ Daeyoung Kim recorded his first career hole-in-one. This is particularly special as the sixth hole is a par-4! However, the fireworks were not over as things were heating up for first round leader Jack Solis. Whispers and chatter were all over the course as Jack was on 59-watch making the turn at seven under, 29! He kept his foot down and was ten under on his second round through 14-holes which included a 20′ par save and a massive fist pump. Nothing would phase him as he kept steady all the way into the 18th and rolled his final putt in for birdie and a course record eleven under, 61!
Congrats to our champions Cameron and Jack as well as the incredible ace by Daeyoung!
