LA QUINTA – The Toyota Tour Cup made its first of two stops out in the Palm Springs area at the exclusive Rancho La Quinta Country Club. However, as the event drew closer, the weather forecasts kept climbing. What was originally forecast as 100 and 103 skyrocketed to 114 and 118 by the time things got underway. Arrangements were made leading up to the event to mitigate these conditions and get the kids on and off the course before the temperatures peaked.
Round one was hot, but manageable, and players made their way around the course grabbing water every opportunity they had out of necessity. Like the weather, the players got hot on the course too as the boys had 4 rounds in the 60’s lead by San Diego’s Yuki Moriyama and Tyler Schafer both with -4, 68’s. Moriyama continued his hot play and posted a final round -2, 70 to finish at an impressive -6, 138 total and claiming his first Toyota Tour Cup victory. The girls first round leader Madi Daniel fired the only round under par all weekend with a solid -2, 70 with a three shot lead going into Sunday’s final round. However, consistent play with rounds of 73-74 from Therese Warner crowned her champion of Rancho La Quinta. This was her first TTC victory as well.
