The Boys Recap
The Toyota Tour Cup headed to the beautiful town of Solvang for a weekend, where the boys played the prestigious Ranch Course. Looking down the first tee with out-of-bounds right and hazard left the boys where in for some fun. Before tee times started the marine layer moved in and a fog delay was issued. The moisture in the air did not stop these kids from catching fire during round one.
The field had 5 of the top ten players in the Toyota Tour Cup standings competing in the field. Teeing off holes 1 and 10 every player was starting on a par 5 looking for a quick start to the round. Day one had plenty of excitement, 9 players under par on the Ranch course with Kaiwen Liu and Justin Egelske leading the way, each of whom shot 69, 3 under par. Day 1 birdie leader was Alrik Pan who had 7 birdies on the day. Not far behind were previous 2015 Tour Cup winners such as Tanner Podres, Brandon Bueno, and Ellis Tirado still within striking distances.
Day 2 had big names in contention and with the help of PGA starter Steve Frank the field was sure to know who was in contention. The Top 25 players in the field were within 5 strokes of the lead, an exciting day off competition it was.
Kaiwen Liu handled the pressure like a poised winner shooting consecutive 3 under par 69’s. Finishing tied second was Tanner Podres and Brandon Bueno, both of whom are neck and neck for the Toyota Series Cup point’s race. The remaining events are sure to be fun as the season comes to an end with the Toyota Tour Cup Championship at Sandpiper in sight.
