OCEANSIDE, California – Arrowood Golf Course hosted this week’s Golf Pride Players Tour 2-Day Championship and it proved to be a fair but demanding test for all the contestants. After the first round was completed it was Heejo Hyun of Irvine who seemed to be up for the challenge. Her opening round of 65 was enough for a 5 shot lead heading into the final round for the Girls division. In the Boys division it was Hanen Wu of Irvine who fired a first round 69 to jump to an early one-shot lead.
The final round began early Sunday morning and the weather proved to be much more challenging for all the players. Alyson Sor of Long Beach had a solid front nine to take a one-shot lead over Heejo Hyun heading into the final nine holes. However, Heejo continued to battle and was tied with Vanessa Ngo for the lead heading into the final hole of the championship. A solid par on the 18th hole for a final round of 78 brought her two-day total to one over par (143), which was good enough for a one-shot victory over Vanessa Ngo and two strokes clear of Alyson Sor in the Girls division. In the Boys division it was Charlie Lovett who got off to a solid start on the front nine and jumped out to an early lead with nine holes to play. His steady round continued as he fired a final round of 70 for a two-day total of 141. He was able to claim the Boys Championship with a one-shot victory over Ryan Abuan who had two steady rounds of 73, 70. In a tie for third place was Matthew Robles and Peter Hu with a two-day total of 144.
