Team SoCal Wins 2017 Mary Cave Cup
44th Junior America's Cup
The 44th Junior America’s Cup was hosted at the Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico. Team Southern California, the reigning 2015 champions, were eager to defend in Mexico.
Guadalajara C.C. is a tight, tree-lined layout with skyscrapers towering over the perimeter holes creating a picturesque backdrop. SoCal played extremely well day one leading the way at -4 as a team and three strokes clear of second. After competition each day the boys were treated to some of the most well-known Mexican traditions including a ‘Lucha Libre’ (Mexican Wrestling match), and a tour of one of the oldest Tequila factories in Mexico.
Round two began with hopes of extending the lead, which we did half way through, but the conditions got a little tougher and the magic just wasn’t there. Team San Diego, comprised of fellow SCPGA players, played well and finished in solo second while Team SoCal watched on the 18th green to cheer on their friends from the South. Finishing in 8th place, Team SCPGA will walk away with fond memories of their time spent battling some of the best Junior Golfers in the region.
