BEAUMONT, California – Logan Kim and Karen Tsuru battled strong winds and fierce competition to claim the 2019 Lizette Salas Classic at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. Salas, an accomplished Southern California PGA Junior Tour alumna and LPGA player, has graciously supported and contributed to the Junior Tour. Some of her notable accomplishments consist of being a four-time All-American (2008-2011), a four-time member of the Solheim Cup Team (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019), and winning the LPGA Kingsmill Championship (2014).
Kim, from La Canada Flintridge, started the final round three-strokes off the lead. He stayed patient and in the hunt throughout the day and finally broke through on his final three holes. His improbable comeback started with a birdie on the par-5 17th, a hole-in-one on the par-3 17th , and then capped it off with a birdie on the par-4 18th. Kim fired a two-day one-under par 143. Chanachon Chokprajakchat finished in solo second with a two-day one-over par 145 and Bo Jin finished in third at two-over par 146.
Tsuru, from Carlsbad, seized her impressive sixth 2019 Toyota Tour Cup title with a two-day one-under par 143. A key contributor to her win this week was getting her final round off to a great start. She birdied four holes on the front nine to shoot a four-under par 32. She went on cruise control on the back nine with her only blemish coming from a bogey on the par-4 13th. Lucy Yuan and Joyce Jin both finished two-strokes behind the leader resulting in a tie for second at one-over par 145.
Special thanks to Head Golf Professional Mark Lamb, General Manager Henry Liaw, Tournament Coordinator Curtis Salley, and all of the staff at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon for their hospitality and support this week.
