Edwin Yi and Clare Legaspi were crowned champions at the Junior PGA Section Championship and will now represent the Southern California PGA section in the 38th Junior PGA Championship. The 36-hole qualifier was held at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon on June 27-28 where one overall boy and girl between the ages 13-18 were fighting for the opportunity to represent Southern California at the national event. The field of 102 players saw a challenging course setup as the boys played from 6,950 yards and the girls played from 6,020 yards on the par 72 Champions course. The first round highlighted a Hole-In-One on the 197 yard par 3 15th from Josh Matz.
Edwin Yi, from Beaumont, California, had rounds of 70-68 for a two day total 6 under 138 for a three shot victory in the boys division. Clare Legaspi, from Temecula, California shot an impressive 66 in the first round to follow it with a 69, for a strong two day total of 9 under, 135.
Yi and Legaspi will travel to Potomac Falls, Virginia on July 30-August 2 for the Junior PGA Championship which will be hosted at Trump National, Washington, D.C.
