CARLSBAD, California – Another Toyota Tour Cup weekend has come to a close. This past weekend at the La Costa Resort: Legends Course was a 54-hole invitational and contained many of the Tour Cup’s top players. Day one consisted of a shotgun start, 36-holes of continuous play. The beautiful Carlsbad morning showcased low rounds, including a standout 65 from Alexander Yang and a 68 from Kento Yamawaki. For the girl’s field, Joyce Jin turned in an even round 72 and Serena Sepersky a 1-over. As the day continued and the breeze persisted and grew stronger, mental and physical stamina were necessary to push through another 18-holes. After the afternoon round, Joyce Jin, Serena Sepersky, and Jasmine Koo found themselves in the final pairing for Sunday shooting 73, 75, and 76 respectively. For the boys, Shane Ffrench fired a 67 to take the lead at 8-under followed by Alexander Yang at 7-under, and Kento Yamawaki at 5-under. With the scoring average for the boys at 75.41, players needed to make birdies to have a shot at a trophy. Finishing with 13 birdies for the event and at 7-under for three rounds, Alexander Yang was crowned champion. Kento Yamawaki, the birdie leader at 14, took home second finishing at 4-under, and Caden Fioroni and Shane Ffrench finished in third at 3-under. With two Toyota wins so far this season, Joyce Jin turned in a 72 to finish at 1-over and took home the Champion’s trophy. Following 4 Toyota Tour Cup wins, Serena Sepersky took home second at 3-over, and Angela Liu took home a trophy for the second weekend in a row with her 7-over finish leaving her in third.
