MURRIETA, CA – The Toyota Tour Cup’s first Invitational was contested at the beautiful Bear Creek Golf Club tucked in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Plateau. This wonderful Jack Nicklaus design was host to the 1985 skins game with Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, and Fuzzy Zoeller! This challenging, yet fair, layout really shows its teeth (or claws) in the afternoon when the WSW winds whip through the hills. Our top players were in for a challenge and a treat this weekend.
Six boys posted rounds in the red on Saturday with four of those knotted up at three under-par. However, one round does not win a championship; you must follow that up with another good round. Sunday proved that with Murrieta local, Ethan Chung, firing another round in the red (71-69) to capture his first career TTC victory! Taehoon Song collected the 2nd place trophy at -2, 142 with Eric Doyle taking solo third at +1, 145.
The girls championship was another close one with seven players within five strokes of one another. Don’t let the scores fool you; this is a very challenging golf course and the rating for these young stars was 77+! When all was said and done there was a three-way tie for the 3rd spot with Kylee Choi, Sabrina Nguyen, and Ashley Kim. Solo second when to local, Jordyn Parr, who’s been racking up the hardware as well as Player of the Year points this season! Like the boys, consistency proves to be the factor as Karen Tsuru (current POY leader) followed up her opening 73 with a clean even par 72 to grab her second title of the 2019 season.
Congratulations Karen & Ethan!
