INDIAN WELLS, CA – The Toyota Tour Cup made another trip to the desert at Indian Wells Golf Resort where the players treated to amazing views in every direction. “The Players Course” was in immaculate condition and the resort staff provided a first-class experience for all.
Round one yielded some fantastic scores by both girls and boys. Once all cards were turned in, three girls shared the overnight lead with -2, 70’s (A. Kim, J. Koo, E. Lee) and sat two strokes ahead of the next best. Beginning on the par-4 sixth hole of the shotgun start; Caden McMackin posted a catastrophic triple-bogey to start his round. However, he proceeded to go -10 over his next 17 holes to take the overnight lead at -7!
The final round shifted to tee times and players were re-paired by their finish from day one. Calder Overfelt and Jason Bannister managed to post rounds in the 60’s to vault themselves up the leaderboard and finish in a tie for second. With such a large lead and another steady round of -1, 71, McMackin held off the rest of the field with an eight-under finish and captured his first career TTC victory. It was not the same story for girls, however. Three were tied at E, 144 (Koo, Kim, Padillo) and were shuttled back out to the daunting 18th hole for a sudden death playoff. One playoff hole was not enough and two players still needed to settle the score (Kim, Padillo). Padillo’s second was just off the green, but Kim fired a beautiful shot into the green and left herself about 12’ left for a birdie. Padillo was unable to knock hers in and left the door open for Kim who confidently rolled her putt in for a birdie and after a two-year drought found herself in the winner’s circle for the first time since 2017!
Congratulations Caden & Angelina!
