The Toyota Tour Cup headed down south to the Golf Club of California at Fallbrook in the avocado capital of the world on August 29th & 30th 2015. The weekend heat wave was in full effect as the temperature reached the mid-nighties on Saturday. However, scores didn’t follow the heat as all but four scores, two boys and two girls, finished over par after day 1.
Amy Matsuoka and Justin Kim shot mirroring rounds of 67, 5 under par on Saturday to lead the field by 3 strokes on each side. Katy Stribiling and Jack Li followed on both ends of the tournament with matching rounds of 70, 2 under. The Golf Club of California at Fallbrook is a narrow golf course off the tee and with greens are made for the tour, going low was not common through day 1.
The heat of Southern California may have had something to do with the scores as players noted the day as long and intimidating. Heading into day 2 the weather cooled down but the scores began to heat up. There were several players in the boys division whom jumped over 20 spots with a strong second round. Cameron Sisk moves from outside the top 25 to a solo 5th place finish. Breaking through also was Jaden Park sitting in 35th place after day 1, making his comeback move with the low round of the day 68, 4 under, to finish tied for 6th place.
Day 1, the top players had a solid hold on the lead, playing with no intention of letting go. Justin Kim striped his first tee shot 30 yards past the average drive on hole 1. Same went for Amy Matsuoka who continued going under par. By the end of Day 2 competition, Justin Kim had stretched his lead to 8 strokes, and Amy Matsuoka stretched her lead to 9 stokes, making for two dominating performances. Justin Kim finished with an 8 under total of 136, and Masuoka finished with a 7 under total or 137.
