The Toyota Tour Cup began its first leg of the ‘Swelter Swing’ out in the desert at the familiar Oak Valley Golf Club. Players know this track well and look to use their knowledge as an advantage and finish high on the leaderboard.
Temperatures approached triple digits by mid-morning and the field loaded up on water to stay hydrated through the brutal heat. The girls contest got off to a hot start with two players going deep in the red with a pair of -4, 68’s by Serena’s Chon and Sepersky and two shots clear of the pack. Round one for the boys was headed up by Rancho Cucamonga’s Ryan Hong carding a -3, 69 to lead by one over Sulllivan, Muldowney & Pace.
The final round was set and players were eager to make a move early before temperatures reach triple digits and winds picked up. Despite these conditions a few of the boys managed to post fantastic scores lead by Steve Sugimoto firing the tournament low -5, 67 and vaulting him into solo second. However, he fell just shy of Talle who fought through an ankle injury and nearly withdrew from the event and put together two rounds of -1, 71 and -3, 69 to earn his first career Toyota Tour Cup. The girls division was a much tighter race with three players finishing at two under par for the tournament. Rose Zhang, Serena Chon, and Serena Sepersky were sent back out on the course to the first playoff hole. Each player scored a par on the first and went on to the second hole. However, this would take three holes to find a winner as Serena Sepersky carded a birdie-four on hole number nine to capture her first career TTC victory.
Congratulations to our newest TTC champions: Serena Sepersky and Bahram Talle!
Thank you to Oak Valley Staff: Paul Hjulberg, Eric Chen.
The TTC Series now makes its way to the desert at the amazing Andalusia Country Club!
