OXNARD, California | River Ridge Golf Club hosted the final regular season event for the Toyota Tour Cup. The first round was extremely challenging as a steady easterly wind gusting up to 20+ whipped through the golf course forcing players into survival mode. One boy and two girls managed to get around with scores of even par, but the top ten for each was well within striking distance. Sunday’s final round would be a different story as the high winds disappeared and allowed the players to attack the course and the stroke average dropped by three strokes.
The final group of girls put on a show coming down the stretch as they played the par-5 18th a combined four under-par on Sunday. Catherine Rao finished solo third at 145. However, the contest would require extra holes to decide the champion. Kylee Choi and Angelina Kim were knotted up at 144 and went back out to the first hole to playoff for the cup. On the second playoff hole, Angelina Kim brushed in a three-footer to seal the deal.
The red numbers were coming in from the Vineyard Course and the clubhouse lead changed seemingly every group that posted. However, a closing -5, 66 from Greyson Leach was more than enough to take the title! He finished at four under-par for the tournament to capture his first career TTC victory. Solo second went to Sihao Cong with Michael Ma and Cutter Ayres tied in the third spot.
The points race is over and the stage is set for the Toyota Tour Cup Championship at PGA West in a few weeks! Congratulations Greyson and Angelina!
