This weekend the Toyota Tour Cup ventured off into Beaumont only to stumble upon the beautiful, Morongo Golf Club. Here we witnessed great golf, cold mornings, windy days, and new accomplishments amongst our juniors.
Starting off we will review our girls play. Day one Kornkamol Sukaree and Jiyau Kong were both tied for the lead at 74. Right behind them was Kayla Sam shooting 75 with three others at 77. Keep in mind; the course rating for the girls was 76.1. Come day two all the girls knew it would take a good round to win. Kornkomol Sukaree was hungry for a TTC win. With the trophy in her sights, she went on to shoot 71, one under par, to claim her TTC victory. Her 145, one over total, was the low 2 day score for the entire tournament. Following right behind her shooting 73 was Jiyau Kong, claiming a solo second place total 147. An honorable mention to Alyaa Abdulghany shooting 72 day two, claiming her solo third place finish with a total of 149.
Opening day for the boys consisted of Daniel Son, Connor Nelson, Jake Marek, and Brandon Kewalramani all tied for the lead shooting plus two, 74. Twenty two other players were within five strokes of the lead. In other words, it was anyone’s title to claim. Come day two, the pins were tight and the players were focused. Two players, Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan and Jaden Park, stepped up and shot two under, 70. This was the low for the entire tournament, and were both tied for the lead at two over, 146. The 18th hole was the playoff destination as both players were shuttled out and more determined than ever. After the first hole of the playoff we had our winner. Carlo Antonio Gatmaytan sank his par putt to claim his first ever Toyota Tour Cup victory. Not only was this his first TTC victory, it was his first TTC event. Carlo joined an elite group; he qualified for the tournament and won it.
The SCPGA Tour would like to thank the Morongo Golf Club for hosting this event. Their staff is always phenomenal and accommodating. Also, a special thanks to our rules officials: Ron O’Connor, PGA, Gary Wilson, Dianne Wilson, Gary Albin, and Tom Powers. Without their passion for the game we would not be where we are today. Finally, thank you to all players and parents for coming out and participating in our events. Putting on fun, professional tournaments is what drives us and hope you all enjoy coming to them.
Dream big and work hard!
