The Toyota Tour Cup’s first trip to the desert was held at an immaculate facility with amazing staff that organized 30+ volunteers to help spot, fill divots, and provide water to the players as they made their way around this championship course. These helpful and friendly people surely made the triple digit temperatures a little more bearable.
The boys teed off at 7:30am with hopes to post a low number and be in contention come Sunday afternoon. After round one was complete there were 27 boys at even par or better aided by a shocking total of eight eagles! This really shows the caliber of player out on the Toyota Tour Cup. Leading the way on Saturday carding a six-under, 66 was Clay Seeber followed by another magnificent round of five-under, 67 by Ryan Smith of Carlsbad. Round two was out of the triple digit temperatures, but gusty winds came along with it driving the scoring average from 73.55 to 75.15. Play was especially difficult for the groups teeing off late as the wind was gusting 20-30mph by noon. As a result there were far fewer rounds at par or better (6). However, Bennett Reichard managed to tame the winds and card the day’s low with a five-under, 67 and vault himself into a second place finish. Clay Seeber was able to follow his 66 with a two-under, 70 to add to his amazing 2016 TTC season and capture his third victory in four events!
Phenomenal golf took place upon this pure landscape. Our Toyota Tour Cup Girls really showed us what Jr. golf is all about. The opening day shed light to two very impressive, four under, 68’s shot by Kornkamol Sukaree and Chayse Gomez. Come Sunday the pins were tucked, the wind was swirling, and the greens were rolling as true as ever. At the days end we had two tied for the first place trophy. Cameron Lee and Kornkamol Sukaree both at one under (143) for their two day total. After two beautiful tee shots and approaches both players were staring birdie in the eye. Kornkamol barely missed hers leaving Cameron with a 37 foot putt for her first Toyota Tour Cup Victory. Without a doubt Cameron hit the putt center cup and went on to claim her first victory within our highly competitive Toyota Tour Cup Jr. Golf Tour.
Congratulations, Cameron and Clay!
