Tanner Podres of Laguna Niguel, California was low medalist at the 2015 United States Open sectional qualifier held May 13th, 2015 at Industry Hills Golf Club.
Tanner was in the second group off hole 10, finishing his round as the early clubhouse lead at 3 under par(-3) and stayed there for the remainder of competition.
Tanner said, “It was just one of those days were everything was working,” the course was playing tough, if you missed it in the wrong place par was a tough save, and pins were placed in ridges and on tiers that added to the difficulty.
Playing in a two-some he was able to concentrate and focus on the shot at hand, “I was able to think about what I wanted to do with the ball each shot,” said Tanner. The 36 hole Regional Qualifier will be held at Big Canyon Country Club and Newport Beach Country Club.
Having played only the front nine of Newport Beach C.C. Tanner will play the remaining 27 holes for the first time during practice rounds in the weeks to come.
Tanner is a member of the Southern California PGA Junior Tour’s Toyota Tour Cup Series and has gained 36 hole experience through Toyota Tour Cup events and feels those are the rounds that have him ready for his U.S. Open regional qualifier June 8th, 2015.
Graduating in 2016 Tanner has a lot more golf in our program, will be competing in the team California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Championships at Talega Golf Club, and now on the regional stage of U.S. Open qualifying along with names such as 1992 Masters Champion Fred Couples.
