
BEAUMONT, CA – Congratulations to the 2017 Southern California Junior Amateur Championship winners, Adam Matteson of San Diego in the boys division with a five-under, 139 and Serena Sepersky of Temecula in the girls division with a plus-three, 147. Hosted at Morongo Golf Club, this two-day 36-hole tournament is the third Annual Championship which is co-hosted by the Southern California PGA and the Southern California Golf Association. 49 girls playing on the Legends Course and 104 boys on the Champions Course represented some of finest junior golfers in the region for this years championship.
Leading the boys division after 18-holes was Tyler Guo, who fired a round one of four-under, 68. Heading into the final round, Toyota Tour Cup member Adam Matteson of San Diego put together an impressive front nine, carding three birdies to take the lead by one-stroke over Guo at the turn. The wind was howling across the course, but heading down the stretch Matteson was in the zone. Playing in difficult conditions, Matteson played scratch golf on his final nine holes to claim the title by four-strokes, with a 36-hole total of 139. Finishing runner-up was, Ryan Smith of Carlsbad, with a strong one-under, 143. With this victory, Matteson earns two exemptions, the first into the 2018 Men’s SCGA Amateur Championship at La Jolla Country Club on July 13th-15th, and the second, into the California Amateur to be held at Omni La Costa resort in the summer of 18′.
In the girls division, Toyota Tour Cup member Serena Sepersky held a two-shot lead going into the final round, after firing a two-under, 70, in first round. Holding her lead by a single stroke though the front nine of the final round, Sepersky was in a tight battle with Angelina Kim of Los Angeles, who carded an eagle on the Par-5 sixth hole. With the course playing very difficult because the fierce winds, Sepersky kept her composure, and finished with a 36-hole total of 147 for the tournament. Sepersky’s outstanding play earned her the title by three-strokes over runner up finisher Jaden Gonzalez of Glendora, who posted a two-day total of 150. With this victory, Sepersky earned herself exemption into the 2018 Women’s SCGA Amateur Championship to be held July 30th-31st at Valencia Country Club.

In the boys division, SCPGA Toyota Tour Cup member Tyler Guo of Irvine took the day-one lead after scratching a four under-par, 68, with five birdies. Guo sits in solo first place with a one stroke lead over three players who shot 69’s for a second place tie at three-under. In the three way T-2 tie is fellow Toyota Tour Cup members, Edwin Kuang of Murrieta, Adam Matteson, of San Diego, and Caden Fioroni, also representing San Diego.
After 18 holes of play, the girls division saw Toyota Tour Cup member Serena Sepersky of Temecula fire off a two-under 70, to take sole possession of first place. Close behind in a two-way tie for second place, are two more Toyota Tour Cup members, with Toni Sottile, of Thousand Oaks, and Angelina Kim of Los Angeles both carding a scratch round of even par golf for a 72. Nipping at their heels at T-4 are two more Toyota Tour Cup members, Jadan Gonzalez of Glendora and Jennifer Cai of Irvine, at plus-one 73’s,
The final round will begin play October 22nd, at 7:30AM, with live scoring at the turn, stay tuned to see who takes home the title of Junior Amateur Champions!
