Ontario, California – Norman Xiong, from The University of Oregon, has become the latest winner of the prestigious Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award. Winners of the award are given to the five best college players, one from Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA. The award grants the Division I’s recipient, Xiong, an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Memorial Tournament next year. In addition, all of the 2018 award winners will play in the Barbasol Shootout to try and obtain an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Barabsol Championship on July 16-22 at Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, KY. The Barbasol Shootout will take place June 2 at Scioto Country Club located in Columbus, Ohio.
Xiong is a notable SCPGA Junior Tour alumni and has since had a successful college career. He has dominated Division I golf by winning an Oregon record six tournaments. He has also been named first-team All-Pac 12, been a PING First-Team All-American member, and the Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner. Along with amassing impressing accolades, Xiong also announced he will be turning pro. Xiong is one of many Junior Tour alums that has displayed tremendous talent on the golf course and professionalism off the course.
