The second of the three Spring Players Tour 2-Day series events was played this last March 24-25 at Menifee Country Club in Menifee. After a rainy week leading up to Saturday, hopes were high that we would get some good weather for a golf tournament. While it wasn’t raining it was windy and chilly on the first day of play. The wind didn’t seem to bother the first round leaders much with Connor O’Brien firing a 3-under par 68 for the boys and the girls being led on the first day with players Erin Johnson and Isley Grguic who both shot level par 72’s.
Sunday started clear and windless but very cold. Many players could be seen taking on and off heavy winter gloves when and after hitting their shots. The day warmed up enough for the field to combine for 12 eagles on the day. The girls side were the ones to go low on day two with Sirya Mupparaju and the eventual girls champion Mariana Gandia-Mak both carding 2-under par 70’s. On the boys side Adam Co and Connor O’Brien shot level par 72 to finish 2nd and first.
The SCPGA would like to thank all players and parents, spectators and Menifee Lakes for making this event possible. A very special thanks to the parents who helped out with shuttling players out to the 10th tee and in from the 9th both days, we could not have done it without you.
The Players Tour 2-day series will be at Arrowood Golf Club in Oceanside on April 21-22, 2018. There we will find out who will get one of the six coveted Toyota Tour Cup exemptions that are up for grabs!
