BEAUMONT, California – This is the first of three Players Tour 2-Day events, where the top points earners from these events gains entry into the Toyota Tour Cup!
Taking a one-stroke lead after the first day, Christian Wentzel from San Clemente, was able to fire a solid round of 74 on the final day of the Players Tour 2-Day at Oak Valley. Not faltering from the pressure, Wentzel was able to recover from an errant shot on his 16th hole. He saved what could have been a disastrous hole and instead made bogey and continued to coast into his victory over Gregory Price by one stroke for Boys 15-18. After shooting the same scores both days, a 74 and 71, Robert Keilch and Sam Ng were headed into a playoff with their one over totals. Both Robert and Sam striped their tee shots down the middle on the short par four. With less than 100 yards for both of their approaches, Robert, with the pressure of a first time playoff, missed the green which opened the way for Sam to win the Boys 12-14 division with a par.
Two days before the tournament, Ashleigh Park had to make the decision on whether to play at Oak Valley or play down the street at the Toyota Tour Cup at Morongo. It appears she made the right decision. After day one, she was tied for first with a three over 75 with Rachel Zhang. At the turn of the 9thhole on the final day, Ashleigh was behind by three when Rachel pulled ahead with a 2-under 34. After regrouping, Ashleigh was able to secure the win with a 5-under back nine, carding three birdies and an eagle. The Girls 12-14 division also had quite the sight of stellar golf. Wanjia Han and Angelica Kusnowo were tied at three over par after the first round, shooting 75’s. Angelica pulled ahead by one after the first 9-holes, however, WanJia was able to keep her composure and shoot an even par 36 to win the tournament by three strokes.
The final event in our Players Tour 2-Day Series will be taking place April 29th and 30th at Arrowood Golf Club. The top two in Boys 15-18 and Girls 15-18 and the top one in Boys 12-14 and Girls 12-14 will earn exemptions into the prestigious Toyota Tour Cup.
