The final event of the fall and 2016 Players Tour was recently held at the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. The Fall Bridgestone Tournament of Champions featured only invited winners from the fall schedule of Players Tour events. With a talented field paired up against a long and difficult golf course the stage was set for fireworks from the contestants or the course and we got both!
Day one ended with only a handful of players able to match or beat par with Benjamin Hong and Sebastian “Seabass” Vallejo turning in 71’s in the Boys 12-14 Division and Dafei Chen shooting level par 36 for the 9-11 Boys. In the girls Divisions a longer course allowed for more points up for grabs but higher scores as well. The girls went ahead and without complaint still posted great scores on a truly “Championship” layout.
Day two came cold and foggy, although the fog let up enough for an on time start; it was questionable for about 10-15 minutes if play would be suspended due to very limited visibility on the back nine. The gray stuff soon lifted and it turned into a great fall day for golf. Day two highlights were eagles for Anthony Khaiat on #2, Bo Jin on #3, and Derek Kim on #9.
Derek Kim took the Boys 15-18 by 7 strokes at 147.
Olivia White won the Girls 15-18 by one at 154.
Boys 12-14 winner was Sebastian Vallejo out in front by 3 strokes with one over 145.
12-14 Girls winner WanJia “Emma” Han was one ahead at the end with 156.
The 9-11 Boys were led by Dafei Chen with 36-41=77.
Frances Kim landed 100 points with her 40-38=78 in the Girls 9-11 group.
Thank you to all players and their supporters. We look forward to seeing you in 2017.
