The 4th annual Corey Pavin Invitational was held at the majestic CrossCreek Golf Club in Temecula. Players prepared for a marathon day of 36 holes the first day on a very challenging layout where par is surely a great score. Mother Nature had other things in mind as first round tee times were bumped 10 minutes due to a fog delay and things were much worse on Sunday as players and spectators all sat around waiting for the fog to lift. Finally, after an hour and a half delay, play was able to begin.
The Girls’ Invitational saw some familiar faces in the final group, and one new face. Kate Villegas was the 36-hole leader playing beside Amari Avery and Serena Sepersky several shots back. It was a very tight race as they made the turn and continued all the way to the 54th hole. However, already a multiple winner in 2017, Avery just edged out Sepersky by one stroke to capture her first Corey Pavin Invitational title.
There was a similar story for the boys as it featured players still vying for their first TTC title. Harrison Kingsley played solid golf opening the weekend with a -3, 68 to lead through round one and continued his great play to earn a third place trophy. 36-hole leader Guy Clauss followed up his impressive play firing another round under par on Sunday to finish at four-under par for the tournament. However, nobody could catch Chris Chomyn who was absolutely on fire posting a -4, 67 in round two and a -5, 66 on Sunday to capture his first career TTC victory.
