MIRA LOMA, California – Ian Maspat and Serena Sepersky are the 2018 champions of the annual Corey Pavin Invitational! The 54-hole Toyota Tour Cup tournament was established in the name of one of the SCPGA Junior Tour’s most notable alumn, Corey Pavin. Having had a storied career on the PGA TOUR, Pavin attends this event each year to watch the most elite Junior Tour members compete, and personally present the trophies during the awards ceremony.
Day one saw the 90-player field provide strong showing despite the tricky pin locations, tough course conditions with the wind picking up heavy in the afternoon. Playing 36-holes with the course in prime condition, it was Serena Sepersky who went low for the girls carding a one-under 143, claiming solo first. The boy’s division saw a three-way tie between Griffin Pace, Ian Maspat, & Adam Matteson, all at one-under, 141’s.
Following the first 36-holes, the players were re-paired based upon scores, with the leaders teeing off last during the final round. The great weather and fierce competition set the stage for a competitive atmosphere fitting for this high caliber invitation-only tournament. Coming down the stretch in the girl’s division, Sepersky set the pace early, carding two birdies on the front nine. With the wind picking up in the afternoon, Spepersky kept her composure and coasted to victory, shooting even in her final round, finishing at 1-under, 215 for her three-day total, making her the only girl to finish under par for the tournament. In the boy’s division, the leaderboard was crunched at the top heading into Sunday, but it was Ian Maspat who ultimately claimed victory by going low in his final round, shooting an impressive 4-under, 67. Maspat finished the event as the only boy under par, at 5-under, 208.
