Mira Loma, California –The 2019 Corey Pavin Invitational was hosted by Goose Creek Golf Club in Mira Loma, California on June 1-2, 2019. The Corey Pavin Invitational is named after Pavin who won the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
Day one was a test mentally and physically as players walked 36 holes. The boys’ leader after day one was 2020 grad Edwin Lam who played incredibly with a 63-70, nine-under par. Edwin’s 63 tied the course record at Goose Creek G.C.! In a close second and third were Taehoon Song and Jaden Cantafio, who shot a two-day total seven-under par and three-under par, respectively. Vanessa Ho took command of the girls’ championship on day one with a 69-72, three-under par. Diana Delgado finished day one three behind the leader with Jasmine Lew and Karen Tsuru four shots behind.
On the final 18 holes, the boys’ championship came down to a playoff between Ethan Chung and Edwin Lam. Ethan Chung shot a third round seven-under par to enter the playoff. The championship was decided on the third playoff hole after Edwin hit his approach shot into the penalty area while Ethan closed out with a par. This is Ethan’s second victory on the Toyota Tour Cup this year. Vanessa Ho closed out the girls’ championship with three-day 69-72-70, five-under par. This victory is her first career Toyota Tour Cup victory. In solo second, Karen Tsuru shot a 71-74-68, three-under par. Kylie Chong and Ashley Yun finished the invitational in a two-way tie at even-par.
Jaden Cantafio provided some excitement on the 5th hole on round three with a hole-in-one!
