BEAUMONT, California – Summer may be coming to a close, but Toyota Tour Cup kept the good vibes rolling at Morongo! 89 talented junior golfers competed over 36 holes at the beautiful, yet challenging, Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. Thank you to Morongo Golf Club for providing such a great test with great course conditions! Sunday’s final round was delayed an hour and a half due to dense fog in the area.
Scores were red hot this weekend at Morongo Golf Club for the boys with twelve rounds at or under par round one, and eight rounds under par round two! Two boys were able to post scores in the 60s on Sunday; Hyunho Cho came out firing a -3, 69 to finish the event under par. After 36 hard fought holes, three players finished in a tie for second place at two under par with matching first and second round scores of 72 and 70 respectively. Birdieing two of his last four holes, Matthew Gunson came in clutch to post a final round 69 and claim the victory this week. This is Matthew’s first Tour Cup victory and comes at the perfect time, Matthew will start at UC Irvine this fall!
Great playing all around by the girls this weekend at Morongo Golf Club. Six girls posted under par scores this weekend, but the low round honors went to Angelina Kim, going out in -5, 31! She would finish the day with the tournament low of -3, 69 and vaulting herself into solo third. The overnight leaders (Dimayuga, Sepersky) did not falter as they matched each other stride for stride down the stretch and would require a playoff hole to decide the champion. Sepersky dropped a 30’ bomb on the first hole to seal the deal!
Congratulations Serena and Matthew!
Special Thanks to Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon staff and especially to Director of Golf, Mark Lamb who made this event possible last minute! Also thank you to all of their wonderful staff! Big thanks to our sponsors, Toyota for making our tour possible and Antigua for providing us with awesome apparel this week!
