PLEASANTON, California (July 29,2018) – Team South battles hard to the end and comes out victorious at the annual Boys North/South Matches in Northern Califonia at the treasured Jack Nicklaus designed Golf Club at Ruby Hills!
The annual tournament is a 10v10 where the SCPGA players compete against the Junior Golf Association of Northern California (JGANC) in both team and singles matches. The morning format consisted of team better ball for nine holes, followed by team alternate shot on the back nine. With a clutch 2-0 performances from the Kevin An/YouSeong Choi pairing and the Peter DiBernardo/Adrian Elderman paring, Team South took an early six-to-four advantage after the team matches.
Heading into the afternoon singles matches, early victories from veteran Toyota Tour Cup member, Guy Clauss opened the floodgates for the rest of the boys to add some valuable points. In the final anchor group, Adreus Navarro and Pete DiBernardo each carried a large lead in their singles matches after 9 holes, clinching a critical two points early. With the afternoon shaping up to a close 7 to 7 score, Trevor McNary closed out his pivotal match, giving the South the upper hand with only a few matches remaining. The hard-fought battle came down to a half point steal by Kevin An after being down one heading into 18. In the end, it was Vito DiBernardo who sank the final victory putt, putting the South Team over the top, cinching an 11&1/2 to 8&1/2 victory with a large gallery there to witness the moment.
Special thanks to TravisMatthew for the team polos, and their continued support of the SCPGA Junior Tour! Lastly, we would like to thank the JGANC for hosting this year’s tournament in Northern California at another fabulous facility in Ruby Hills.
