The Junior Development Tour’s final event of the season was held December 10th, 2016 at Heartwell Golf Course, located on the north side of Long Beach California. Heartwell GC is a frequent stop on the JDT tournament schedule and was the perfect course for this Championship event. Heartwell’s rich in golf history, most notably is SCPGA Junior Tour Alumni Tiger Woods having playing regularly as a child.
Over 100 players arrived early to warm up on the driving range and get a feel for the greens. Weather conditions were slightly overcast throughout the morning, burning off into the afternoon. The course was in great condition with the greens in outstanding/ above average shape, rolling smooth and true. The last event of the season had some participants required to shoot low in order to qualify for the Players Tour in the 2017 season.
Throughout the morning the players showed excellent pace of play skills, playing ready golf on the executive length par 3 course, keeping play moving swiftly. Showcasing the skills learned over the 2016 season, the JDT athletes were showcasing outstanding short games, with chip shots rolling up tight to the pin. Difficult hole locations for this Championship event, designed to test the field.
